Results from the SAAMBR uShaka Beach clean-up

Armed with our permit from eThekwini Municipality, 20 SAAMBR staff ventured onto uShaka Beach in typical windy September weather to take part in the International Coastal Cleanup. We hit the uShaka Beach after the Coast Care team had removed the big litter items. 

Twenty staff cleaning for an hour collected the following:

  • 289 food wrappers
  • 360 cigarette butts
  • 389 earbuds
  • 454 plastic bottle caps
  • 1783 plastic nurdles
  • 3 pairs of sunglasses
  • 8 disposable masks
  • 1 set of keys on a rope float
  • Hair braids
