The iNaturalist City Nature Challenge is a global challenge that happens each year where residents celebrate their cities’ biodiversity. This year iNaturalist is hosting the 6th Annual City Nature Challenge (CNC) between the 30th April and 3rd May 2021.
Most South African cities boast an impressive array of wildlife from insects, birds, reptiles, fungi and plants and we would love you to join us in sharing your observations with the world.
In order for your observations to add to the City Nature Challenge, they must be observed and uploaded to iNaturalist during the specified period. You do not need to be able to identify the organism, just make sure it is uploaded. iNaturalists has a community of experts who can help you identify your observations thereby helping you learn more about your local wildlife.
You have four days to take pictures of the local wildlife in your garden and local parks. You will be astounded at nature’s wonders hiding in your back yards, just waiting for you to take a closer look!
To check whether your city is registered to take part in the CNC please visit www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-southern-africa-2021
If you want to participate in the City Nature Challenge but your city isn’t taking part you are welcome to join the global project by clicking www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-global-challenge-2021
If you visit uShaka Marine World we would be grateful if you would take pictures of some of the beautiful plants, insects and other animals that call uShaka Marine World home and load it onto www.inaturalist.org/projects/ushaka-marine-world
