Marine Line Fish Tagging Project
Successful fisheries management and conservation depends on good co-operation between users, managers and scientists. It also depends on the ability of scientists to undertake sound stock assessments of the resources being harvested in order to enable the development of regulations that ensure sustainable use. The ORI Tagging Project helps to achieve both these goals as it allows fishers to actively participate in the accumulation of data which can ultimately be used for conducting stock assessments. The project enlists conservation-conscious anglers to voluntarily tag and release their catch, thereby generating critical scientific information on fish movement patterns, growth and fishing mortality. ORI manages the system and undertakes the scientific analyses, interpretation and dissemination of results.
