Calling all ocean enthusiasts! Whether you're a surfer, paddler, beachcomber, fisherman, diver or someone who enjoys sitting and reflecting on the ocean and its wonderful creatures, uShaka Sea World has something special for you.

Two Marine Ecology Courses have been scheduled for 2016. The first will take place from 14 April to 12 May and the second from 11 August to 8 September, every Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at the uShaka Sea World Education Centre.

The course includes slide presentations, lectures, hands-on identification practice, detailed course notes and a guided tour of the uShaka Sea World Aquarium.

You will learn how to distinguish one fish from another and how to identify common and reef fish families. You will also learn the classification and characteristics of invertebrate.

The oceanography module covers currents, underwater geology and beach dynamics, while the biodiversity module explores South Africa’s marine biodiversity threats, how abiotic and biotic factors impact threatened species, and some of the country's management successes.

The course ends with a unique guided night tour of the Aquarium during which students will be able to witness the night-time activities and adaptations of various marine creatures not generally seen during the day.
