Celebrating Gambit

uShaka Sea World is proud to announce the celebration of Gambit’s 45th year on Saturday 23 July 2016 and to highlight the dolphin's most recent accolade – receiving the Pan-African Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZA)’s Animal Ambassador of the Year award. He will share his birthday cake with visitors after the 11:30 and 15:00 dolphin shows.

Gambit with Kelly de Klerk and his PAASA awarad

Gambit, who currently weighs almost 500kg is father to six of the uShaka Sea World dolphins and grandfather to one. He is both a national and international icon that has inspired more than 15 million South Africans to care for the marine environment.

Who can forget his appeal for humans to dispose of their litter in bins and not where it might end up in the ocean?  Gambit is a most worthy recipient of the PAAZA Animal Ambassador of the year award. The dolphin has consistently been described by his trainers as a most gentle soul that loves creating new behaviours and responds well to public applause.

Gambit is proudly South African, the pride of Durban and much loved by all those who are and have been honoured enough to work with him. If you plan to visit uShaka Marine World on Saturday 23 July, make sure you allocate an extra 15 minutes after the dolphin show to join the staff in celebrating Gambit.

Send Gambit a congratulatory message via Twitter at @SAAMBR or post an image of Gambit on sa_marine_biological_research on Instagram or use our email address: info@saambr.org.za
